Since Julian's Absence I have been looking after things in Arden for him, it has not been hard, but today I received my first actual mission. I went to Gerard for our usual briefing and he told me of activity near the Black Road and asked if I would check it out. On my way out I ran into Ballentine, Head of the prison guards, on his way to meet Gerard for his briefing. He started to tell me about a rumor he heard down at the tavern but cut himself off as he was late. I thought i better get all the info before I head out, can't be too careful when dealing with the Black Road.
Bloody Eric's, the tavern constantly changing names depending on which owner has recently died. Still they tend to be for the most part pleasant to the royals. One man there told me he had been attacked a few days ago on a trade rout near the black road by many beasts.
I followed the road back till i found traces of something coming off it. Did i ever find traces, I would estimate about five hundred. I tracked them into a trading town a lot of traffic and not to many of them were of help. Through some investigation I learn that a large group came in all of them wearing a patch of a pyramid with an eye in the middle. I also rand into another man who unlike most others in town seemed quite helpful, his name is Tanvere. He said their patches were fro Dragos a shadow on the outskirts of The Golden Circle, I trumped Floramel to try and get some info on them. I like Flora. She sometimes lacks the ability to grasp the seriousness of a situation, or she hides it well, but either way I find her entertaining to chat with. According to her though, they are a fairly peaceful people in Dragos and the symbol I described was altered. The Dragos have a Pyramid Symbol but no eye.
I started tracking them down in the city killing them one by one till they disappeared, then i decided to follow a wealthy caravan out of town hoping it would be their next target. Lucky for me it was we chased off the brigands easily enough and I followed them back to there camp. I am good but i still did not want to try to take on another four hundred by myself. So I called for re-enforcements from Arden.
I waited till they got there and with the morning sun at our backs we attacked. I lost a few good men but we triumphed without too many casualties.
After interrogating some of my prisoners I learned the leader of the brigands, a man neither killed, captured or even seen named Tecton leads them. When we arrived in Amber one of the prisoners was making quite a fuss. More than the others denying any involvement. He was not dressed like the others and just a feeling I got from him told me he was different. He claimed He was the one who informed Amber about the brigands, but i could find no immediate proof. I told him we would discuss it in the morning. Then he tried to escape, He was a shift and quite strong breaking his bonds with ease. I manage to neutralize him easily enough with a couple arrow some of the brigands thought it was also a good to try their escape but it did not go so well for them... This fellow named Raavin still proclaimed his innocence so I stuck a deal with him, I'm not sure why just being an unknown shifter in Amber in these times is enough to get one killed, but the way he spoke of bringing justice to the brigands and desperate innocence in his voice called to me. The deal was to allow him to stay (chained) to an infirmary bed till morning when I would help him reveal the truth or untruth to his claim.
Now I sleep in my own bed... I'll continue my story when convenient...
